AUTHENTIC BIRMINGHAM ACCENT VOICE TALENT

Brummie Voiceover Artists

Easy Tiger Voices represents professional Brummie voice over artists for commercials, corporate film, broadcast, e-learning and beyond. We have deep Birmingham roots and we are proud of them. The Brummie accent is warm, distinctive and increasingly in demand, and we know it from the inside.

Why the Brummie accent works, bab

For decades the Birmingham accent was overlooked in broadcast and advertising. That has changed. Brands now actively seek voices that sound like real people from real places, and Brummie delivers exactly that. It carries warmth and credibility without the neutrality of received pronunciation.

Peaky Blinders brought the Birmingham accent to a global audience and the response was not what the old stereotypes predicted. People listened. From Jasper Carrott to Ozzy Osbourne, Birmingham has always produced distinctive voices. Our roster carries that tradition into professional voiceover. Research shows that Midlands voices build more trust than RP in many commercial contexts, and yet Brummie remains one of the most underused accents in UK advertising.

A city with a voice

Birmingham has always produced talent

Our roster carries that tradition into professional voiceover, authentic, skilled, and ready to work. See how five major brands got it right with a Brummie voice.

Our Brummie voice artists

Every artist on our roster has been through a proper application and review process. These are professional Brummie voice talents, not a directory of anyone with a microphone and a Birmingham postcode. Each carries genuine West Midlands roots and the studio chops to back it up.

What Brummie voiceover works for

  • TV and radio commercials: regional campaigns or national spots that want a genuine alternative to RP
  • Corporate narration: internal communications, training and e-learning that benefit from a human, grounded tone
  • Documentary and factual: authoritative without being detached, perfect for documentary narration
  • Animation and gaming: character work where a strong accent is an asset
  • Branded content and social: online video where personality matters as much as clarity
  • IVR and phone systems: Brummie warmth answering the phone outperforms generic RP for trust and recall
  • Audiobooks and podcasts: Birmingham voices for fiction, memoir and long-form non-fiction

Casting advice

Accent strength varies

The Birmingham accent is not one thing. From the soft, leafy lilt of Moseley to the harder edges of Aston, the character shifts neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Some of our artists carry a light Birmingham lilt; others have a stronger, more characterful accent. Tell us what you need and we will find the right match.

What does a Brummie voiceover sound like?

The Birmingham accent has a handful of phonetic signatures that make it instantly recognisable, even to listeners who could not place it on a map. Understanding them helps when briefing a project.

  • Falling intonation: Brummie sentences often end on a descending note where most accents rise. This gives the accent its characteristic melodic, almost reflective quality.
  • The “i” sound: “Right” sounds closer to “roit”, “five” closer to “foive”. One of the most identifiable Brummie markers.
  • The “a” vowel: “Mom” rather than “mum”, a Birmingham peculiarity that predates the American usage.
  • G-dropping with lift: “Singing” becomes “singin”, but with a softer, uplifted ending unique to Birmingham, not flat like other regional accents.
  • Softer consonants: Brummie rolls more than it clips. Even in fast delivery, the rhythm stays musical.

What this means for casting: a Brummie voiceover carries instant regional character without sounding rural or comedic. It signals city, modernity and warmth at the same time, which is why brands targeting an authentic but contemporary feel keep coming back to it.

Brummie accent by Birmingham neighbourhood

The Birmingham accent shifts noticeably across the city. Casting a Brummie voice is not a single choice; it is a choice between half a dozen distinct flavours of the same accent. Here is how we think about it when matching artists to scripts.

South Birmingham

Moseley, Kings Heath, Bournville, Stirchley, Hall Green

The softer, more melodic end of the Brummie spectrum. Moseley in particular is artistic, cosmopolitan and slightly bohemian; the accent carries the warmth without the heavier vowels. Kings Heath and Stirchley sit close behind. This is the Birmingham voice for brand work that wants authenticity without the harder edges, lifestyle, food and drink, financial services, contemporary corporate.

North Birmingham

Aston, Erdington, Kingstanding, Perry Barr, Witton

The classic, characterful Brummie. Stronger vowels, more rhythmic intonation, the accent most people hear in their head when they think Birmingham. Aston gave the world Black Sabbath and the Peaky Blinders draws heavily on this part of the city. This is where to cast when the brief calls for proper, unmistakable Brummie.

East Birmingham

Yardley, Small Heath, Sparkhill, Sparkbrook, Bordesley Green

Distinctive working-class Brummie, often blended with the multicultural rhythms of these neighbourhoods. The voice of real, lived-in Birmingham. Ideal for grounded commercial work, community campaigns and drama where authenticity matters more than polish.

North-East fringe

Sutton Coldfield

Birmingham’s most aspirational postcode and it shows in the accent. The Brummie is there but softened, almost dialled back to RP. Suits financial services, professional services, healthcare and anything that wants Birmingham warmth without leaning into the regional character too hard.

City centre

Digbeth, Jewellery Quarter, Highgate, Ladywood

The modern city voice. Mixed, younger, often more neutral with flashes of strong Brummie underneath. Good for creative agencies, lifestyle brands, tech and anything tied to Birmingham’s current cultural moment.

West and South-West

Edgbaston, Harborne, Selly Oak, Bournville, Quinton

The university and old-money quarter. Softer, more polished, occasionally barely Brummie at all. This is the voice for higher education, professional services and corporate work that wants a Birmingham connection without a thick accent.

The psychology behind the accent

There is a reason brands are turning to regional voices. Research into the psychology of the Birmingham accent in marketing shows that audiences respond to accents they associate with authenticity and groundedness. The Brummie accent scores consistently high on warmth and trustworthiness, two qualities that directly influence buying decisions.

This is not about novelty. It is about effectiveness. A Brummie voiceover signals that a brand is confident enough to sound human rather than polished. For audiences in the Midlands it says we are your neighbours. For audiences nationally it says we are real people, not a marketing department.

Not just a trend

Regional voices are the future

The shift away from RP in advertising is not a fad. Read our analysis on why brands are choosing regional accents over RP and what it means for casting decisions.

Brummie vs Black Country: know the difference

The two accents are routinely confused outside the Midlands and routinely defended inside it. If your project targets the West Midlands specifically, the difference matters.

Brummie Black Country
Where Birmingham city: Aston, Moseley, Erdington, Digbeth, Kings Heath Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Sandwell, Stourbridge, Halesowen
Sound Melodic, falling intonation, softer consonants Flatter, more clipped vowels, distinct “yow” for “you”
Vocabulary “Bab”, “our kid”, “round the back of Rackhams” “Bostin” (excellent), “ar” (yes), “yam” (you are)
Casting feel Warm, urban, contemporary Older-school, industrial, characterful
Best for National commercial work, broadcast, corporate Heritage brands, regional campaigns, character roles

Both accents carry huge regional pride. If you are unsure which one fits your script, brief us and we will advise.

How to brief a Brummie voiceover

The more specific your brief, the faster we can send the right shortlist. Three things help most.

  1. Accent strength. Light Birmingham lilt, characterful Brummie, or full Peaky Blinders? A reference clip or even a name (think Cat Deeley versus Ozzy Osbourne) saves us guessing.
  2. Tone and pace. Warm conversational, punchy commercial, calm corporate, documentary-style. Pace matters as much as tone, particularly for ads with tight in-and-out timings.
  3. Usage and rights. Where it runs, how long for, and which territories. This drives the rate and the buyout, so the more clarity up front, the cleaner the quote.

Send your script even in draft form. We will come back the same working day with curated audio samples, clear rates and confirmed availability.

Local knowledge

Why ETV for Brummie voices

We are Birmingham-founded and we cast Brummie every week. We hear the difference between Bordesley and Bournville. We know which artists can dial the accent up or down on the day. And we have the studio infrastructure to deliver, broadcast-ready audio, anywhere in the world.

Brands that have chosen Brummie voices

Birmingham voices have carried major campaigns across television, radio and online for decades. The accent is now actively cast where ten years ago it would have been replaced with RP.

  • Cadbury built a century-long brand identity in Bournville and continues to use Birmingham voices for emotionally-led campaigns.
  • Jaguar Land Rover uses regional UK voices that signal British manufacturing pride.
  • The BBC regularly casts Birmingham accents for current affairs, drama and documentary, particularly since the move north and the rise of regional commissioning.
  • HSBC and other major financial brands have shifted toward regional accents in customer-facing audio over the last five years.
  • Aldi, Lidl and the supermarket sector use Midlands voices to project value, warmth and everyday trust.

If a Brummie voice can carry chocolate, premium cars, prestige broadcasting and high-street banking, it can carry your campaign too.

Brummie works across the board, TV and radio commercials, corporate narration, documentary, animation, gaming and branded content. The accent carries warmth and relatability that connects with audiences nationally, not just in the Midlands. Brands like Cadbury, Jaguar Land Rover and the BBC have all used Birmingham voices in major campaigns.

They are often confused but they are distinct. Brummie refers specifically to the Birmingham accent, while the Black Country accent comes from towns like Dudley, Wolverhampton, Walsall and Stourbridge. The vowel sounds, intonation and even the vocabulary differ. If your project targets a specific West Midlands audience, we can advise on which accent is the right fit.
We typically send a curated shortlist with audio samples within the same working day. For urgent briefs, same-day turnaround is often possible. Just send us your script, tone preferences and deadline.

Rates depend on script length, media (TV, radio, online, internal corporate), usage period and territory. A regional radio spot is very different from a national TV campaign with a two-year buyout. Send us the brief and we will return a clear, itemised quote within the same working day.

Brummie dubbing and ADR session at Easy Tiger Voices

Dubbing & ADR

Brummie dubbing and ADR

We cast and record Brummie dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.

Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match native Brummie voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.

See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.
