Why Canadian, not just American
Canadian English sits in a useful gap. Close enough to General American that US audiences hear it as familiar, distinct enough that Canadian, UK and international audiences hear it as theirs. For brands targeting the whole of North America without committing to a fully American identity, or for any campaign with a Canadian client, government department or broadcaster in the chain, a Canadian voice is the safer call.
It’s also the default for a generation of tech and SaaS brands headquartered out of Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Waterloo. Canadian voices carry the tech-friendly polish without the LA polish, and they read as trustworthy in regulated sectors (finance, healthcare, public sector) where Canadian companies are heavily represented.

Regional flavours
Most Canadian voiceover work is delivered in Standard Canadian, the neutral broadcast register you’d hear on CBC. For projects rooted in a specific region or character, there’s more on the menu.
Standard Canadian
The CBC broadcast default. Neutral, modern, trusted across the country. Closest cousin to General American but with the Canadian rounding on words like “about”, “process” and “sorry”. The right pick for most corporate, e-learning, tech and cross-border work.
Toronto & Southern Ontario
Urban, current, fast-moving. The Greater Toronto Area accent is what most non-Canadians picture as “Canadian”, and it dominates national advertising and Canadian-headquartered tech. Reads as young and metropolitan without sounding rooted to one neighbourhood.
Maritime & Atlantic
Warm, character-rich, distinctly East Coast. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI voices carry working-class warmth that pairs well with documentary, hospitality, heritage brands and anything storytelling-led. Newfoundland is its own world, lean toward it for full character work.
Western Canadian
Bright, relaxed, outdoors-leaning. Vancouver, Calgary and the Prairies share a clean, slightly West-Coast-American register that suits tech, lifestyle, action sports and travel content. Pairs naturally with anything set against mountains, ski hills or open road.

FAQs
To most ears outside North America, very little. To native ears, plenty. Canadian English carries a few telltale markers: the “Canadian raising” on words like “about” and “out”, a softer “sorry”, flatter vowels on “process” and “again”, and a more measured pace overall. It reads as neutral North American rather than specifically American, which makes it useful for brands that don’t want US-coded delivery. If your client is Canadian, or your campaign runs in Canada, casting Canadian rather than American is the safer call.
Three main scenarios. First, if your client, campaign, broadcaster or audience is Canadian, casting American sounds lazy and is often a problem with regulators or unions. Second, if you want a North American voice that doesn’t carry US baggage (relevant for some international markets and political contexts). Third, if you’re working with a Canadian-headquartered company (Shopify, Hootsuite, Telus, RBC) where Canadian voicing matches the brand.
Yes, almost always. Standard Canadian is close enough to General American that US audiences read it as neutral North American. Many of the voices US viewers hear in network ads and Hollywood trailers are Canadian, even when they’re voicing American brands. The only time it doesn’t work is when the script calls for a specifically American identity (regional US accent, Americana, US political content) where authenticity matters.
Yes. Several of our Canadian voices deliver in both Canadian English and Québécois French, which makes them efficient for bilingual campaigns where the same voice carries across both language versions. Tell us the script and we’ll shortlist accordingly. For Québécois-only work, see our French voiceover page.
Same-day for most briefs. Send us the script, tone notes and target accent in the morning and we’ll typically have two or three voice options back by end of day. Final recorded deliveries are usually within 24 to 48 hours once the voice is selected, faster if it’s urgent.
Both. Many of our Canadian voices are UK-based and record from broadcast-quality home studios here, useful when you want London-hours project management and fast turnaround. Others are based across Canada, from Vancouver and Calgary to Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. We match the voice to the brief, not the other way around.
Absolutely. Send us the script and we’ll come back with a shortlist of custom-voiced auditions, usually three voices, recorded against your actual script, within 24 hours. No charge, no commitment.
Yes. For documentary, character work, heritage brands or anything rooted in Atlantic Canada, we can shortlist voices from Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. Tell us the kind of warmth or character you’re after and we’ll match it.
Dubbing & ADR
We cast and record Canadian English dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.
Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match native Canadian English voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.
See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.
