The Manchester accent
The Manchester accent, usually called Mancunian or Manc, is the everyday speech of the city and much of Greater Manchester. It is a northern accent, so words like bath and laugh take a short vowel, and cup rhymes with put. What marks it out from the rest of the North is the ending of words: the last vowel in city and happy is short and open, and the final sound in better and Manchester is drawn back in the mouth.
It is often confused with its neighbours. Mancunian is not Scouse, which belongs to Liverpool and Merseyside, and it is not the older Lancashire accent heard in the towns to the north of the city. Most UK listeners know the sound from the music and television that have come out of Manchester.

Why cast a Manchester voice
A Mancunian voice reads as direct, dry and confident. It suits a plain-speaking, unfussy tone, and it is recognisably northern without leaning on a rural or heritage image. That makes it a regular request for youth, music, sport, retail and technology briefs.
It is also a city accent with national reach. A light Manchester read sits comfortably on a UK-wide campaign, and a stronger one gives regional work a clear sense of place.

Our Manchester voices in action
Advertising
Radio, TV and online spots that need a confident northern voice. A Manchester read works for retail, sport, food and drink, and any brand that wants to sound straightforward and current.
Corporate
Internal films, onboarding and e-learning for teams based in the North West, or for organisations that want training content to sound like the people taking it.
Broadcast & Character
Narration for regional and factual programmes, plus character voices for animation, audio drama and video games where a script calls for a Manchester accent by name.
Accent strength
Tell us how much Manchester you want to hear. A light accent keeps the warmth and the northern vowels while staying easy on the ear for a national audience. A full Manc read suits regional campaigns, comedy and character parts.
If you are not sure, send the script and a reference you like. We will shortlist voices at more than one strength so you can hear the difference before you choose.
Tell us in the brief
Light, medium or full accent. Male or female. Age range. A reference voice or advert if you have one.
How to brief us
Send us your script, tone reference and deadline. We will come back with a focused shortlist of Manchester voices and their availability.

FAQs
Yes. Mancunian is the name for the accent and the people of Manchester, and Manc is the short form. All three terms describe the same accent, spoken in the city and across much of Greater Manchester.
They are neighbours, and they are not the same. Mancunian is a city accent. The Lancashire accent belongs to the towns and countryside to the north and is the older, more rural sound. If your script names a place, tell us and we will cast for that place.
Yes. Ask for a light accent. The voice keeps its northern character and stays clear for listeners anywhere in the UK.
Yes. We also represent Scouse, Lancashire and general northern voices, and you can see every region on our UK regional accents page.

Dubbing & ADR
We cast and record dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.
Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match Manchester voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.
See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.
