Why UK brands need Russian voices

Russian is spoken by around 150 million native speakers and a further 100 million who use it as a second or working language across the former Soviet space, the Baltics, Israel, Germany, the UK and the wider Russian-speaking diaspora. For brands and broadcasters with Russian-speaking audiences in those markets, Russian voiceover remains a serious commercial language, and casting it well matters. Russian rewards measured, intelligent reads; the standard is high and audiences are quick to spot anything that sounds amateur or accented.

It also matters for UK and European production. Multinational employers run Russian internal communications for staff across Europe. Documentary and factual series rely on Russian narration for diaspora-facing output. International e-learning publishers commission Russian for compliance and product training. Whatever the brief, a native Russian voice with broadcast discipline is what audiences expect.

Russian accents - Moscow standard and beyond

Russian is more uniform across its speaker base than English or Spanish, but there are still distinct regional features. The educated Moscow standard – the accent of national news and high-profile broadcast – is the default we cast for almost all commercial, corporate and broadcast work. Underneath that, there are recognisable regional and diaspora accents used for character and dramatic work.

Moscow standard (educated)

The accent of national news, high-profile broadcast and the de facto neutral Russian for most commercial, corporate and e-learning work. Authoritative, measured and instantly understood by Russian-speaking audiences worldwide.

Works for: advertising, corporate narration, e-learning, documentary, IVR.

Saint Petersburg

A subtle regional accent often perceived as slightly more formal or literary than Moscow. Useful when a brief wants a slightly bookish or refined feel without leaving the neutral standard entirely.

Works for: literary work, premium and cultural brand work, audiobook, factual narration.

Southern Russian

The accent of the Don and Kuban regions, with softer consonants and more vowel reduction than Moscow standard. Used mostly in dramatic and character work to evoke a specific regional identity.

Works for: character work, dramatic dubbing, regional drama and factual content.

Northern Russian

Retains the unreduced “okanye” pronunciation in some areas – the older, more open vowel sound that has been smoothed out of Moscow Russian. Used for period work, character pieces and certain factual contexts.

Works for: period drama, character work, factual content rooted in northern Russia.

Diaspora Russian (UK and Europe)

Russian recorded by voices living in the UK, Germany or elsewhere in Europe, where rhythm and reference points sit naturally inside European-targeted assets. Useful for diaspora campaigns and content commissioned outside Russia.

Works for: diaspora advertising, public information, UK and European commissions.

Character and period

Beyond standard regional accents, we cast Russian voices for specific character briefs – older speakers, working-class register, period reads, military and academic tones. Useful for drama, animation and historical factual.

Works for: drama, animation, video games, period documentary.

Russian dubbing and ADR session at Easy Tiger Voices

Dubbing & ADR

Russian dubbing and ADR

We cast and record Russian dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.

Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match native Russian voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.

See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.

Russian voiceover - FAQs

Yes. Every voice on our Russian roster is a native speaker. Russian rewards a particular kind of measured, slightly weightier delivery that tends to elude non-native speakers, however fluent. Stress patterns, vowel reduction and the soft-hard consonant contrast are very difficult to fake. For corporate, broadcast and e-learning use we will only book native voices.

Pricing depends on length, usage and project type. Corporate, internal communications and e-learning work is typically quoted on a flat buyout basis. Broadcast use is quoted by territory, media and duration. Russian dubbing and audiobook work is priced by finished length or by session. We provide a clear fixed quote based on the brief, usually within the same working day, with usage rights set out in writing.

Most Russian projects are turned around in 24 to 48 hours from brief sign-off, including casting, recording, editing and revisions. Same-day turnaround is possible for short scripts, although Russian scripts are often longer than their English equivalents because of how the language packs information. We will flag this on the quote where it matters.

For almost all commercial, corporate and broadcast work, book the educated Moscow standard. It is the default neutral Russian and is what Russian-speaking audiences worldwide expect to hear in advertising, training and documentary content. Regional or character accents are used in drama, animation and specific creative briefs.

Yes. We work directly from Cyrillic scripts as standard, and we can also accept transliterated scripts where useful. For brand names, acronyms and any English terms inside a Russian script we agree pronunciation with you up front, often producing a pronunciation guide before the session so there are no surprises on the take.

Usage is agreed up front and documented in the booking confirmation. Corporate, internal and e-learning use is normally supplied on a perpetual non-broadcast buyout. Broadcast and online advertising is quoted by territory, media and duration, often 12 months with the option to renew. Diaspora-only broadcast and online use can sometimes be quoted at a lower rate than full territory licences.
