Swedish - Rikssvenska and regional accents

Swedish has clear regional accents but, unlike English, they barely register in commercial voiceover. Almost all national broadcast, advertising and corporate work uses Rikssvenska – Standard Swedish – which is a Stockholm-area-based neutral broadcast accent. That is what SVT presenters speak, what Spotify scripts get recorded in, and what we recommend for any Nordic or international client commissioning a single Swedish read.

Rikssvenska / standard

The Stockholm-area broadcast standard, used by SVT, national advertising and most corporate. Neutral, clear and what we recommend for almost all international briefs.

Works for: national advertising, broadcast, corporate, e-learning, factual narration.

Gothenburg / west coast

A gentle, slightly slower west-coast cadence. Sometimes cast for regional retail, hospitality and tourism work where local feel matters.

Works for: west-coast retail, hospitality, tourism, regional brand work.

Skane / southern

A softer, almost Danish-tinged accent from the south. Cast deliberately by some southern Swedish brands for local authenticity.

Works for: southern retail, food, tourism, character work.

Finland-Swedish

The variety spoken by the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland. A separate accent cast with native Finland-Swedish talent for Finnish-market briefs that need a Swedish-language read.

Works for: Finland-targeted Swedish-language briefs, Aland Islands work.

For almost all commercial, corporate and broadcast work, yes. Standard Swedish – Rikssvenska – is understood and accepted nationally. We only cast regional accents for specific local or character briefs.

No. Swedish, Norwegian and Danish are related but distinct languages with different audiences and listener expectations. We cast each Nordic country separately rather than asking a Swedish voice to cover the region.

Yes. Finland-Swedish is a separate accent spoken by the Swedish-speaking minority in Finland, and we cast it with native Finland-Swedish talent for Finnish-market briefs that need a Swedish-language read.

Standard turnaround is 24 to 48 hours from script approval. Same-day delivery is available for short broadcast spots when the script is locked.
