The West Country accent
West Country is the family of accents spoken across the South West of England, from Bristol and Gloucestershire down through Somerset, Dorset and Devon to Cornwall. The feature most people notice first is the r. Speakers pronounce it after a vowel, in words like farm, car and hard, where most accents in England leave it out.
The Bristol accent, often called Bristolian, is the city version. It keeps the strong r and adds a habit of its own: an l sound on the end of words that finish in a vowel, so idea can sound like ideal and area like areal. Further south and west the accent slows down and the vowels lengthen.

Why cast a West Country voice
A West Country voice sounds warm, unhurried and rooted in a place. Food and drink, farming, tourism and heritage brands ask for it when the product comes from the South West, or when they want that sense of the outdoors and of things made properly.
Bristol is a different brief. It is a city accent, quicker and more contemporary, and it suits youth, music, technology and creative-sector work as well as regional campaigns.
Tell us the place
If your script names a county or a town, say so in the brief. A Bristol voice and a Cornish voice are not interchangeable, and listeners from the region will hear the difference.
Our West Country voices in action
Advertising
Radio, TV and online spots for food and drink, cider and dairy, farming, tourism and regional retail, plus national campaigns that want a warm regional voice.
Corporate
Internal films, onboarding and e-learning for organisations based in Bristol and the South West, voiced in an accent their own teams recognise.
Broadcast & Character
Narration for rural, coastal and factual programmes, and character voices for animation, audio drama and video games, including the classic stage pirate when a script asks for one.
Accent strength
The West Country accent is one of the most imitated in Britain, and a broad version can tip into caricature. Tell us where you want it to sit. A light accent gives warmth and a hint of the South West for a national audience. A full accent suits regional work, comedy and character parts.
If you are not sure, send the script and a reference you like. We will shortlist voices at more than one strength so you can hear the difference before you choose.
Tell us in the brief
Bristol or rural West Country. Light, medium or full accent. Male or female. Age range. A reference voice or advert if you have one.

Dubbing & ADR
We cast and record dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.
Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match West Country voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.
See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.
