Why this voice

A major UK and global diaspora language

Punjabi is spoken by around 125 million people worldwide. The Punjab is split between India and Pakistan, and the UK is home to one of the largest Punjabi diasporas in the world – Birmingham, the Midlands, West London, Bradford, Leicester. For UK brands and the public sector, Punjabi is one of the most commercially relevant South Asian languages.

There’s also a major writing-system split. Indian Punjabi uses Gurmukhi script and is the language of the Sikh community. Pakistani Punjabi uses Shahmukhi (Perso-Arabic) script and is closer to Urdu in vocabulary. The accent and register differ. Confirm which Punjabi the audience speaks before casting.

The spectrum

Punjabi variants we cover

The most important casting decision is Indian Punjabi vs Pakistani Punjabi. Get this right and the rest is register.

Indian Punjabi (Gurmukhi)

East Punjab and the global Sikh diaspora. Gurmukhi script, Sikh religious and cultural register. The default for UK Sikh community campaigns and Indian Punjab market work.

Pakistani Punjabi (Shahmukhi)

West Punjab, closer to Urdu vocabulary. Shahmukhi script. The default for Pakistani Punjab market work and UK Pakistani diaspora communications.

UK British Punjabi

Punjabi as spoken by UK-born and UK-raised Punjabis – typically Indian Punjabi with English-language influence. The right register for UK-born audiences.

Formal / Authoritative

Higher-register Punjabi for public sector, NHS, government and prestige brand work.

Punjabi dubbing and ADR session at Easy Tiger Voices

Dubbing & ADR

Punjabi dubbing and ADR

We cast and record Punjabi dubbing across the sync levels a project needs, from rough-sync and time-sync through to full lip-sync, plus ADR and voice replacement, for film, TV, streaming, games and corporate content.

Casting matters as much in a dub as in an original read. An audience hears a mismatched voice immediately, so we match native Punjabi voices to the on-screen performance, not just the script.

See the full service on our dubbing and ADR page, or read our guide to the difference between dubbing and voice over.
