Icelandic is spoken by around 350,000 people, almost all in Iceland. The country has produced disproportionate cultural exports – Björk, Sigur Rós, CCP Games (EVE Online), Saga literature, Northern Lights tourism. Native Icelandic is the only credible casting choice for the home market, and a meaningful differentiator for any global campaign that wants to claim Icelandic authenticity.
Commercially, Iceland is a serious gaming localisation market (CCP Games, Klang, Mighty Games), a fast-growing fintech and crypto destination, and a tourism powerhouse. The Icelandic Language Council enforces strict linguistic standards – Icelandic audiences expect properly conjugated, properly inflected native casting, not approximations.

Modern Icelandic is closer to Old Norse than to any other Nordic language. Norwegian and Swedish speakers cannot easily understand it. Cast Icelandic specifically.
